This cake server is hand-pierced and formed from heavy, reclaimed copper pipe and copper wire. The handle is riveted with brass. It is a design I’ve revisited often and enjoy making. By design, each are similar to the others, but over the years I’ve refinied my approach to fabricating them.
The patterns on these cake servers are inspired by patterns I remember seeing as a child when my mom introduced me to pysanka egg decorating. My great grandmother was from the Ukraine on my mother’s side, and having early exposure to this part of my heritage created great interest in early folk art decoration for me. I’m so drawn to the stylized flowers and animals.
