Moonscape Ring with Moonstone
I imagine this ring to anchor a particular state of mind. I want it to evoke a headspace with the vastness of Space itself, and the solitude of a moonscape.
The surface of the wide, open-shank band is textured with fused silver filings. On the band, I set two stones – a faceted pale-peach moonstone and small pink tourmaline cabochon. These aren’t colors one would expect to see in a moonscape, but I wanted to incorporate a muted suggestion of the red map pin convention to mark this as a type of location. The silver has a liver of sulfur patina to give the ring the color of a moonscape in sunlight with high-contrast highlights and shadows.
